That work, of course, was The West Wing, so it’s only natural that Sorkin is thinking about reviving The Newsroom. Looking back, that was a crucial time in Sorkin’s career. One man obsessed with writing every word who could not possibly do it.

The rest of episode—the scenes taking place in the present—alternated between brilliant and schmaltzy. The best moment came when Jane Fonda’s Leona Lansing got to school petulant new ACN owner Lucas Pruitt (B.J. Novak) on his sexist behavior with a blistering monologue on gender pay inequity and the misogyny of the entitled male. At first, the wistful nostalgia seemed promising, with a look back at how That Speech from the pilot episode came to be from different perspectives. It’s smart to revisit That Speech, Will’s blistering monologue about why America isn’t the greatest country in the world, because it remains the series’ finest moment.

America needs intelligent programming, and I am absolutely crushed this show is ending. I guess Duck Dynasty is the way America is moving… sad really. I hope, if the pundits are right, that Sorkin follows with another engaging series. This was a good one, and it surely could have gone HBO’s self-imposed limit of 5 seasons. I can see a story arc that could easily make that effective.

It was one of the best shows I have ever watched. Pruit is having PR issues — one of his companies is reportedly paying female employees less money; a separate story revealed he hired models to appear at his birthday party. He doesn’t have a PR problem, he has an actual problem. As Charlie’s friends and family gather to pay their respects at his funeral, Mac finds out she’s pregnant. She shares the news with Will, who is both elated and nervous for her. He accidentally reveals her pregnancy to some of the other staff and word quickly travels.

I am eagerly anticipating the new season, to see if they refocus on the sorry state of news media of today. When they start tackling the lack of information within the news media of today, and how far it’s actually fallen, then I have something to agree about. I watched this show by default, I had nothing better to do and the cable provider had a video section with series 1 and 2 of The Newsroom. I had never seen it before and, as I have lived out in Serbia for the last 10 years, knew nothing about it.

” It was thrilling to do, but man, when you’re handed an 80-page script and you 60 pages of it and you shoot Monday — my head is already starting to hurt. I told Aaron to let us just look at it as a job well done. There’s been no bitching about why there’s no Season 4. It’s three and out, and that’s three more seasons I’ve had with Aaron Sorkin than before I did “The Newsroom.” So I’m grateful.
